Marco van der Velden has been Managing Director and CEO of Berg Hortimotive Group since February. Due to an increasing need of food in the world, an upscaling horticultural industry and growing scarcity of knowledge, he sees great opportunities for data-driven solutions in horticulture. Or as he calls it: Horticulture 4.0.

Since February 2020, Marco van der Velden has been Managing Director and CEO of Berg Hortimotive Group. With a background in the metalworking industry and general machine building, he has the broad base required to lead this group - consisting of Berg Hortimotive BV and HortiKey BV. Even more so because these companies continue to expand globally with their growth strategy, and seamlessly connect with the professionalism of the greenhouse horticulture sector. Wherever there is a need for total solutions in the logistics chain and where safety, productivity and sustainability are in the center of attention.

Berg Hortimotive wants to continue to distinguish itself with products that add value to greenhouse horticulture. The joint step which was made with Royal Brinkman in 2018, helps to improve the further internationalization and increase of scalability in the activities. Under the leadership of a new managing director, smart logistics developments in the field of data and digitization will be further shaped in the coming years, while naturally retaining one's own identity.
On November 1st, the Hortigala of the Year took place. The evening was opened by Minister Carola Schouten and KUBO Group was appointed as the new leader of the Hillenraad100. Hillenraad 100 provides an overview of the 100 leading companies in the knowledge and capital-intensive greenhouse and horticulture industries. The list paints a picture of the full cluster, divided into seven segments. Ever since 2003, the Hillenraad100 has been the monitor when it comes to the developments in the Dutch horticulture industry.
A trust-worthy basis and intuitive joystick controls
Greenhouses that don’t have a pipe rail system can be found all over the world. In order to be able to take care of the crop economically and efficiently there, Berg Hortimotive developed the EasyTrack.
Berg Hortimotive has been contributing to the optimization of global food production for more than 50 years. This is a complicated process and consists of various steps. From composing and growing seeds, to taking care of the crop and then finally to harvesting and packaging the products. Last weekend we participated at the World Food Festival in a special greenhouse right next to the central marketplace (Markthal) in Rotterdam.
In the run-up to Budget Day *, the so-called "Princes-Festival" took place from 10 to 17 September. The guest province was South Holland's strategic partner for this festival.

Berg Hortimotive (De Lier), Padmos (Stellendam) and Wout Hogervorst vof (Noordwijkerhout) have been nominated this week for the OOM Award South Holland 2019. The OOM Award is the award for the most active (metal) learning company in the region. The winner will be announced on September 6.
The retractable roof tomato greenhouse of LaManna Premier Group, located in Victoria’s Goulbourn Valley becomes more and more efficient. Last year the crop rotation was completed in the blink of an eye with the use of the Bio Chopper, and now the greenhouse is also equipped with pipe and rail, crop trolleys and automatic sprayers.

In response to new directives and regulations in the field of safety, Berg Hortimotive (De Lier, NL) has completely re-engineered its Benomic range of mobile scissor lifts. The result is the ergonomic S-line series: approved by the TüV, and incorporating state-of-the-art technology to make it as efficient, easy and comfortable as possible in its day to day use. The redesigned scissor mechanism enables safe working at up to 6.6 m high.

Wim Roest, branch manager at RedStar, received his ticket to the future from Andreas Hofland, General Manager at HortiKey. With the trade fair promotion during the Fruit Logistica in Berlin earlier this year, the Berg Hortimotive subsidiary has actively engaged in making known the great advantage of the daily automated and very accurate determination of the crop estimate.
We not only bring greenhouse vegetables and flowers in motion with our products, but a number of our colleagues are also bringing themselves in motion during the Rotterdam Business Marathon on 8 April next. We have two teams from four colleagues who together will walk about 10 kilometres; quite a feat, and we wish them now every success.
On Wednesday, 7 March, Her Majesty Queen Maxima officially opened the World Horti Center in Naaldwijk. The collaboration between education, research, government and trade and industry makes this global knowledge and innovation centre in the heart of the Dutch greenhouse horticulture the first of its kind in the world. Minister Carola Schouten of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality also attended the official opening and in a speech she underlined the international leading position of the horticulture sector.
